Masala Chai

Every time a guest enters the home, it is traditional to serve them a steaming cup of chai. Often, a single visit of a close friend or relative will witness multiple rounds of masala chai being served. It is also traditional for the elders in the family to have a cup every morning. It usually accompanied by a biscuit that is dipped into the chai.


Recipe: 

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 teaspoon chai

  • 4 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon chai masala (Indian tea masala)

  • ginger (optional)

  • fresh lemongrass(optional)

Method:

  1. Heat 1 cup water on medium heat

  2. Add teaspoons of chai, sugar, and chai masala (ginger if wanted)

  3. Let it boil 

  4. Then add milk to the pot

  5. Keep an eye on the pot so it does not overflow

  6. Once the chai seeds start to rise turn off the heat

  7. Finally strain the drink into the mug

  • 10 minutes

  • Serve immediately
